The Malone IT Department has recently updated the Remote Access Service to make it compatible with more computer operating systems including Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS, and Linux. Remote Access can be found on Malone Xpress or at Due to this upgrade, there are some changes that users must be aware of.  

A major change is that, in order for you to edit documents, you must first download the desired document and save it to your computer.  You can then make the necessary changes and upload the new document back into your network drive.

In order to edit a document from Remote Access you must follow the following steps:

Retrieving a Document from Remote Access
  1. Sign into remote access through with your Malone user name and password. The only option is the Malone group.
  2. From the “Home” view (visible by default), click either your H-Drive or Courses drive.
  3. The contents of the selected drive will then be displayed.
  4. Click the name of the document you wish to edit. Click “Save”

  5. Then, on the dialog that appears, select a destination. We suggest that you save to your desktop temporarily.
  6. Once you have saved the document to your desktop you will see another selection asking if you would like to "open" the document or "close" it.  You can choose one of two options here.
    A. Select to open the document and start working
    B. Select to close and then open it from your desktop.
  7. Once you are finished working on the document, save the changes to the document on your desktop. You will now need to upload/push the file back to your network drive.

Uploading a Document to a Network Drive Using Remote Access
  1. Again, within the "Home" tab you will see your H: and R: drive.  Select which drive  the document originated from, in order to be uploaded. In this case the H: drive was selected.  At the top of the menu you will select the "upload" option as noted below by the arrow.

  2. An "upload file" popup box will appear.  Select "Browse" in order to locate the edited document.

  3. Make sure "Desktop" is selected as the folder to view, select the file needed and "open."

  4. Click the OK button. You will be prompted as to whether or not you wish to overwrite the existing file. Click “Yes” if you want to overwrite the existing file. If not, upload the file with a different name. If the file is large, the time to upload may be several minutes. Do not click “OK” multiple times.

  5. When the “Upload File” dialog box disappears and you see the file appear within the list of all of the documents, the file has completed uploading. The “Date Modified” may not change immediately depending on operating system and browser version.
